HOW TO USE LOW CEILINGS AS AN ADVANTAGE FOR YOUR HOME INTERIORS

1. LIGHTING

Consider recessed lighting to create a smoother look. These lamps illuminate the interiors and at the same time make the rooms stylish and spacious. Additionally, in homes with low ceilings, avoid low-hanging ceiling fans. You can also consider sconces; light focused on the ceiling creates the illusion of height. Avoid old-fashioned chandeliers for LOW ceilings, as low-hanging ceiling fans will attract the attention of visitors and also make your rooms look smaller.

2. LOW FURNITURE

Large and bulky furniture can make any room smaller. Consider choosing custom furniture that is proportional to the height of the ceiling. Make the dining room and sofa long, slim, and low-profile so that this furniture is proportional to the size of the room. You can also include full-height storage solutions and narrow shelving units that go all the way up for an interior that feels more spacious. While tall furniture draws attention, low-height furniture creates the illusion of more overhead space.

3. DRAPES/CURTAINS

We usually use window curtains primarily to block light, but did you ever know that using floor-to-ceiling curtains can help a room feel more spacious? To create more verticality that tricks the eye, hang curtains at a height between the wall and the ceiling. or at least remember to hang the curtains 4″-5″ above the window frame. This will make the window look bigger and make the room look more spacious if you are going for this look!

4. ART

Similar to a floor-to-ceiling curtain, another way to make a home with low ceilings look taller is to create vertical stripes or tall wall art. This can be achieved with tall artwork rather than using wide and vertical striped wallpaper. Hanging small frames above accent walls or near windows will also trick the eye into thinking the room has higher ceilings. But make sure you don't hang it too high that your visitors have to strain to see the wall art.

Similar to wallpaper, to personalize your home, try accent walls that can change the size and space of a room. The key is to create accent walls with dark gray or other dark shades to create a spacious look and cozy atmosphere. If you are working with a living room or dining room with a special shape, ask an interior designer for the right solution.

5. MINIMALISM

In a room with a low ceiling, clutter will only add to the small, cramped feeling. Keeping your space airy, clean, and bright, like this South Carolina apartment, will make the room feel larger and more spacious.

6. MIRROR

Expertly placed mirrors allow light to bounce around your low-ceilinged room and appear to gain some surface area. As seen in this Chicago apartment, a well-placed mirror can raise your ceilings and "visually" expand a room that could benefit from this trick, often used in smaller restaurants.
